Rosh Hashanah - Jewish New Year

The Czech Union of Jewish Youth, in cooperation with Beseder Gallery, invites you to celebrate Rosh Hashanah on September 24 at 6 p.m. at the Beseder restaurant (Lihovarská 1060/12A, 190 00 Prague 9-Libeň).

Rosh Hashanah (Hebrew: רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה‎, literally "head of the year") is the Jewish New Year, celebrated on the 1st and 2nd days of the month of Tishrei, which corresponds to approximately September to October in the Gregorian calendar. The Mishnah refers to this day as the day from which the years of the Jewish calendar are counted. According to Jewish tradition, the world was created on this day. It is the first of the High Holy Days (Hebrew: יָמִים נוֹרָאִים‎, Yamim Nora'im, i.e. "Days of Awe," "Days of Reverence," "Days of Awe") and the first day of the so-called "Ten Days of Repentance" (Hebrew: עֲשֶׂרֶת יְמֵי תְּשׁוּבָה‎, aseret yemei tshuva), which are the most important days in the Jewish year.
