Beseder Gallery

Date: 6.3.2025 od 19:00 hodin

We cordially invite you to our Beseder Gallery on Thursday 6 March 2025 at 7:00 pm for a concert from the music festival Eternal Hope, where two unmissable instrumentalists of the young generation, cellist Vilém Vlček and pianist Marek Kozák, will meet.

Young musicians at artistic crossroads

Another unusual venue of the Everlasting Hope Music Festival will be the Beseder Gallery in Prague's Balabenka, a friendly space that has long connected art and social life. On Thursday, March 6, 2025, at 7:00 pm it will host two outstanding instrumentalists of the young generation – cellist Vilém Vlček and pianist Marek Kozák.

After performing Beethoven’s Cello Sonata No. 5 in D major, they will introduce the lesser-known works of Nadia Boulanger, a French composer and pedagogue at the Paris Conservatoire. While her students included Aaron Copland and Philip Glass, her own music struggled to find its way onto concert stages and opera houses.

Comparable expectations are raised by Krzysztof Penderecki’s Divertimento for solo cello, which was premiered in Cologne in 1994 by Russian cellist Boris Pergamenschikow.
The concert, taking place in a gallery that has been a lively social hub for years thanks to its adjacent restaurant, will conclude with Bohuslav Martinů’s Sonata for Cello and Piano No. 3, which was
composed both in France and the USA and first performed in Washington in 1953. The composer, himself a refugee from Nazism, dedicated the piece to Hans Kindler, a cellist, conductor, and founder of the National Symphony Orchestra in the U.S. capital.

Beseder Gallery, which focuses on contemporary art by artists with roots in post-imperial countries, thus provides not only an acoustic but also an inspiring setting for this exceptional musical evening.

Immediately before the concert, the Beseder Gallery (from 7 pm) will present "Schindler's List", a work by Spanish architect and artist Pedro Salas Rodríguez inspired by Steven Spielberg's film of the same name. "The work is an anthem of hope, expectation and the strength of the human spirit that has managed to overcome and survive tragic events. With the help of
geometric shapes, a palette of grey colours and tissue paper, I want to express the horror of the catastrophe of millions of people who have lost their individuality and turned into living shadows," says Pedro Salas Rodríguez about his work. The artist has donated this work to the gallery.
